On Netflix they are aware that they have the goose that lays the golden eggs in stranger things and it’s time to treat the premiere of the fourth season as an event. How? After posting a multitude of teaser To drop clues about the plots of this new stage, this Friday the platform has leaked the first eight minutes of the new season. And, how could it be otherwise, it begins with surprise.
It is as if the Duffer brothers, the creators of the series, have stolen a page from the manual of lost. We can see a boy delivering newspapers in a neighborhood like Hawkins. One of the neighbors opens the door and picks up the newspaper from the floor. We don’t see his face but we can see that he prepares himself a hot drink, sets a timer and begins to complete a crossword puzzle. And, when he finally stands in front of the mirror, he is immediately identified: he is Dr. Brenner played by Matthew Modine, whom Eleven called “Papa”, and the action takes place in September 1979.
The rest of the images can be seen directly by the reader. The only detail worth commenting on is that, if someone wanted to meet again with the characters played by Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder or David Harbour, they will have to wait because they have not yet made an appearance at the start. But it confirms that, even though stranger things has burned the plot since its inception in July 2016, it’s time to return to the origins and experiments of the sadistic scientist.
In addition to this appetizer, Netflix has also taken the opportunity to report that platform customers will be able to see seven of the nine episodes of the fourth season this coming Friday, May 27, when it premieres.
Although it will be the first time that a season of stranger things be broadcast in two blocks, a broadcast strategy that they have already tried with titles such as The Money Heist either Ozarks during its final seasons, the most unusual of all was that the number of episodes that would make up each block was not reported.
With this new partition, Netflix’s intentions seem clear: to turn the last act of the season into a frenetic event scheduled for July 1, like someone who premieres a popcorn blockbuster but is not in theaters.
Seven episodes will air on May 27 and the last two on July 1.
